Black and white cracked eggshell box

There’s something disarming about a lacquer box resting on a tabletop—mysterious too. In fact, the more beautiful the box, the more valuable one imagines its contents to be. From the looks of it, our eggshell box is filled with riches! It can take artisans up to 20 steps to create one—from painting a wooden base and creating an inlay pattern of tiny crushed eggshells, to applying multiple coats of paint and varnish and finally, polishing the box until it shines. This black-and-white crackle box is an example of the finest lacquerware available.
